Your domain in the QR codes

Setting up a subdomain that will be visible when consumers scan your QR codes.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to add a subdomain to your QR Squared account and connect it to our web service. This allows you to use your own branded subdomain inside your QR codes. For illustrative purposes we will use the subdomain id.brand.com in this article.

Step 1: Navigate to the Domains Settings

  1. Go to the Settings page in your QR Squared dashboard via the settings cog in the bottom left of the page

  2. Click on Domains.

  3. Select Add a custom domain.

Step 2: Add Your Subdomain

  1. Enter a subdomain of your brand, for example id.brand.com.

  2. NOTE- make sure this is a subdomain not currently in use by your organisation. You can quickly check using a tool like https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/dig/

  3. Click Connect domain.

Step 3: Verify Your Domain

You will now see the following screen.

To verify your domain and connect it to our service, you need to login to your DNS provider (web services provider) and add two new DNS records, known as CNAMEs.

1. Log in to Your Domain Provider

  • Go to your domain provider's website (e.g., GoDaddy, Squarespace, Namecheap, etc.).

  • Log in to your account.

2. Access DNS Settings

  • Navigate to the DNS Settings or Custom DNS Settings section of your domain.

3. Create a CNAME Record

  • Add two new CNAME records with the following details:

    CNAME record one..

    • Name: Enter id

    • Value: Enter scan.polytag.io.

    CNAME record two..

    • Name: Enter *.id

    • Value: Enter scan.polytag.io

4. Save the Records

  • Save the newly created CNAME records in your domain's DNS settings.

Step 4: Verify on QR Squared

  1. Return to the Domains section in your QR Squared account.

  2. Click Verify Domain.

Step 5: Wait for Propagation

  • Domain verification can take time due to DNS propagation, which may take up to an hour or more.

  • If your domain hasn’t verified immediately, wait a while and check again later. You can continue working in the platform, leaving this to run in the background.

Step 6: Troubleshooting

  • If the domain still doesn’t verify, click Check Again to retry verification.

Once your domain is verified, it will go live, and you can use your custom branded subdomain for all your QR code needs.
