Your domain in the QR codes

Setting up a custom domain that will be visible when consumers scan a QR code.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to add a custom domain to your QR Squared account. This allows you to use your own branded subdomain like qr.yourbrand.com for QR code links.

Step 1: Navigate to the Domains Settings

  1. Go to the Settings page in your Polytag dashboard via the settings cog in the bottom left of the page

  2. Click on Domains.

  3. Select Add a custom domain.

Step 2: Add Your Subdomain

  1. Enter a subdomain of your brand, such as qr.yourbrand.com.

  2. NOTE- make sure this is a subdomain not currently in use by your organisation. You can quickly check using a tool like https://www.nslookup.io/

  3. Click Connect domain.

Step 3: Verify Your Domain

To verify your domain, you need to update your domain's DNS settings with your domain provider by adding two CNAME entries.

1. Log in to Your Domain Provider

  • Go to your domain provider's website (e.g., GoDaddy, Squarespace, Namecheap, etc.).

  • Log in to your account.

2. Access DNS Settings

  • Navigate to the DNS Settings or Custom DNS Settings section of your domain.

    E.g.: in namecheap.com

3. Create a CNAME Record

  • Add two new CNAME records with the following details:

    CNAME record one..

    • Name: Enter qr (or the subdomain you selected earlier).

    • Value: Enter scan.polytag.io.

    CNAME record two..

    • Name: Enter *.qr (or the subdomain you selected earlier, with the prefix *.).

    • Value: Enter scan.polytag.io.

4. Save the Records

  • Save the newly created CNAME records in your domain's DNS settings.

Step 4: Verify on Polytag

  1. Return to the Domains section in your QR Squared account.

  2. Click Verify Domain.

Step 5: Wait for Propagation

  • Domain verification can take time due to DNS propagation, which may take up to an hour or more.

  • If your domain hasn’t verified immediately, wait a while and check again later.

Step 6: Troubleshooting

  • If the domain still doesn’t verify, click Check Again to retry verification.

Once your domain is verified, it will go live, and you can use your custom branded subdomain for all your QR code needs.
