Download QR codes

How to download QR codes from the platform ready to send to your label artwork provider

How to download QR codes

Go to the Catalogue tab and click on either the download logo or on the three dots at the end of the product row. Select QR Artwork from the menu.

This will take you to this pop up menu..

Simply click on the Download artwork button and the QR code will instantly appear in your downloads folder

Download guidelines

  • File format: you can download your QR codes as an SVG (recommended), PNG or JPEG file.

  • Printing guidelines: this tells you the minimum size your QR codes must measure when printed to meet GS1 global standards. This ensures they can be scanned anywhere, by any scanning device.

  • Note that if as part of your artwork creation and printing process your provider already has the software capability to generate QR codes you can simply take the base product URL and generate the QR codes from that. For example, https://qr-2.co/01/05099817001091

Download multiple QR codes at once

  • Download for: you can download the QR code(s) for the product you selected, for all products in that product's group, or for all products in your catalogue

    • Downloading for one product will download an indidivual file

    • Downloading for all products in a group or for all products in total will download a zip file containing a list of files, each labelled with the barcode number and product name

Advanced settings

If you switch on the Advanced options toggle, the pop-up window will look slightly different and you will have more advanced settings you can specify for your QR code downloads.

Error correction level

The error correction level means how much of the QR code can be damaged and still scan. Higher means more of the code can be damaged and it will still scan, but it will make the code larger. Our default error correction level is medium as we find this is the best balance between optimising QR code size and ensuring it will always scan.

File format

The default file format for downloading QR codes is an SVG (Vector) file, but you can also download them as PNG and JPEG files.

Include GTIN (barcode number) as a footer

You can include the GTIN (barcode number) as a footer underneath the QR code. When QR codes replace 1D stripy barcodes on pack as the only scannable code this will become compulsory.

QR code + Stripy barcode

You can download a QR code and its associated 1D stripy barcode when clicking on the QR+1D tab

Add supply chain data

When you switch on the toggle labelled Encode application identifiers it allows you to add other supply chain data into your QR codes along with the GTIN. This information is embedded in the URL that the QR code represents, meaning this data can be retrieved by other stakeholders in the supply chain upon scanning the QR code.

For example, encoding the batch number could be used to support your customers identifying whether they have bought an item that has been recalled due to a safety concern. And encoding an expiry date can be used by retailers to ensure that any short date or out of date products are not sold at the checkout.

Using our tool, you can verify what the impact is of adding this supply chain data to the size of your QR codes, which is calculated automatically in our platform, meeting GS1 global standards.

A Batch (or Lot) number can be added as free text, but to meet GS1 Digital Link standards it must be between 0-20 characters long and cannot include characters £, $, or ^ (from a technical perspective it must only contain characters from the GS1 82-character encodable character set).

CPV (Consumer Product Variant) can be added as free text, but to meet GS1 Digital Link standards it must be between 0-20 characters long and cannot include characters £, $, or ^ (from a technical perspective it must only containt characters from the GS1 82-character encodable character set).

Expiry date must be input as a date in the dd/mm/yyyy format.

Printing guidelines

This tells you the minimum size you need to print your QR codes to ensure they meet GS1 Digital Link standards. When you add other data (application identifiers), or change the error correction level, the QR code minimum size is automatically updated.
