Data Matrix versus GS1 Data Matrix

Our platform supports the GS1 Data Matrix format because of the many benefits it offers for interoperability. It is a specialized version of the Data Matrix that follows GS1 standards. It’s used primarily in healthcare, retail, and logistics to encode standardized product information like GTINs (barcode numbers), expiration dates, and batch numbers. It uses a structured format with Application Identifiers defined by GS1, and it always starts with a FNC1 (Function Code 1) character to indicate that it follows GS1 syntax.
